Eligibility |
Members and their spouses are eligible to apply for Health & Dental Insurance if they are under age 61, reside in Canada and are enrolled in a provincial health plan.
Member, as defined under the plan, includes alumni members, employees, faculty members and registered students.
Employee means a person who is employed with the University/College or Alumni Association at their Canadian operation on a full-time basis.
Registered student means a person who is enrolled in at least three courses of study at the University/College in a given year.
Spouse means the legal or common-law spouse of an eligible Member. Legal spouse means a person who is legally married and cohabiting with the Member and with whom there is no formal or informal agreement of separation. Common-law spouse means a person who has been cohabiting in a marriage-like relationship with the Member for at least 12 consecutive months.
You can also apply for Health & Dental Insurance for your dependent children if they reside in Canada and are enrolled in a provincial health plan.
Dependent Children means any natural child, step-child or legally adopted child of an eligible Member who is :
- over 14 days of age and under 21 years of age, unmarried and receives full parental support and maintenance, or
- 21 years of age or over but under 25 years of age, unmarried and receives full parental support and maintenance for reason of full-time attendance at a recognized school, college or university.
Mentally or physically disabled children may remain covered past 21 years of age, provided they are incapable of self-sustaining employment and receive full parental support and maintenance from the Member.

Once your application is received and approved, you will be sent a Certificate
of Insurance. You will have 60 days to review it to ensure that
it meets your needs. If you are not satisfied for any reason you can
return your certificate to IAP within 60 days and you will receive

Age means attained age at June 1st.
Rates are based on the Member's province of residence.
The premium for a couple or family is determined by adding all family
members' individual premiums.

General Information |
Termination
Your coverage terminates on the earliest of the following
dates:
- the end of the month in which your written request to cancel your coverage is received by IAP;
- the end of the month in which you are no longer eligible;
- the due date of any unpaid premiums;
- the date the Group Master Policy between your Alma Mater and
IAP terminates;
- the end of the month following the date you reach age 65.
Your Spouse's coverage will terminate on the earliest of the following
dates:
- the date your coverage terminates;
- the end of the month following the date they reach age 65;
- the end of the month in which they are no longer eligible as a "Spouse".
Coverage for your Dependent Children will terminate on
the earliest of the following dates:
- the date your coverage terminates;
- the end of the month in which they are no longer eligible
as a "Dependent Child".
Limitations & Exclusions
- Expenses payable under any government plan or legally mandated program, including workers' compensation plans
- Self-inflicted injuries, whether the insured is sane or insane
- Expenses resulting from war, insurrection, the hostile action of any armed forces, or participation in a riot or civil commotion
- Expenses resulting from the commission, or the attempted commission, of a criminal offense
- Dental expenses incurred outside of Canada
- Charges for periodic check-ups, missed appointments, third party examinations, travel for health purposes or completion of claims forms
- Medical or surgery care which is cosmetic in nature
- Medical treatment which is not usual and customary, or which is experimental or investigational in nature
- Dental surgery or treatment which began or was arranged prior to the effective date of coverage
- Charges related to temporomandibular joint dysfunction
- Drug Plan exclusions - fertility drugs, anti-smoking drugs, anti-obesity drugs and birth control implants
- In Quebec this plan does not provide coverage for prescription drugs.
